What Are The Different Levels Of Cover I Can Purchase?

When taking out a taxi insurance policy, you’ll be asked which type of cover you’d like to purchase. There are three levels of cover. Here are your options:

Fully Comprehensive

This is the most extensive level of cover available. It includes third-party, fire & theft. This protects you and other motorists from any damage you cause, as well as covering medical expenses.

Third-Party, Fire & Theft

This level of cover helps you if you’re responsible for damage to other people, passengers or their property and it will cover the cost of repairs. You are also covered if your taxi gets stolen or damaged by fire. HOWEVER, if you’re responsible for an accident, this level of cover will not help pay for repairs to your vehicle or any medical expenses, you will have to pay the costs.

Third-Party Only

This is the most basic level of cover you can purchase and the lowest that it legally required. This will help pay for any damage you cause to other vehicles and property. There is no cover for you or your taxi. If your vehicle is damaged or stolen, you won’t be able to claim back the cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that taking out taxi insurance can seem quite daunting. That’s why we’ve put together a collection of FAQs to answer any questions that you may have.

If you transport people commercially, you’ll need a taxi licence and insurance by law. This applies even if you only do so on a part-time basis. Without the right cover, your insurer may be within its rights to turn down any claims or cancel your policy. It’s vital to have the right policy in place.
Typically it’s more expensive than car insurance due to the fact taxi drivers tend to drive more miles in all sorts of traffic conditions. When your vehicle is used for business purposes, the cost of insuring it is always higher than if it’s being used socially or for commuting.
Along with having a fully comprehensive insurance policy for your taxi, something that you should consider including is public liability cover. This will cover any legal or compensation claims from a passenger who is injured while in your taxi.
Of course we can! Uber drivers will come under a Private Hire insurance policy. The cost of your insurance will be dependent on your vehicle type, along with the usual factors that can affect the cost of insurance. For example, where your car is kept overnight and how many miles you drive a year.
